Saint Lucian footballer Donavan Gusto Phillip scored a hat-trick in the Flint City Bucks’ big win against Lansing City earlier this week in the second division of the United States Soccer League. The powerfully built Marchand native and Castries Comprehensive Secondary School alumnus paced his team to a 5-0 rout.
Phillip opened the scoring with a 25-yard free-kick, and he doubled the advantage with a 40th-minute shot from close range, making it 2-0 at the half. Flint City ballooned their lead to 4-0 before the Saint Lucian star put the icing on the cake with an 80th-minute header.
The 62nd overall pick to the Colorado Rapids in the most recent MLS SuperDraft has been spending his summer in Michigan before returning to NC State this fall, where he’ll be a key figure in the Wolfpack attack.
Last week, the Bucks suffered their first loss of the 2025 campaign when Midwest United FC, a southwest Michigan-based franchise, bested them 2-0 in a match played at Aquinas College Athletic Field in Grand Rapids.
Phillip and Flint City will host Military Appreciation Night against Northern Indiana FC this weekend in a battle for first place in the division. Later this month, the Bucks will play an international friendly match against the reserve squad of Atlas FC from Liga MX, Mexico’s top league. That match is set for June 25 at Kettering University’s Atwood Stadium.
