HAMILTON ACCIES chairman Jock Brown claims the company petitioning against the South Lanarkshire club are ‘pursuing the wrong company’.
The crisis Scottish League One outfit have had a winding-up order placed against them at Airdrie Sheriff Court under the insolvency act on August 4.
Total Energies Gas and Power Limited are the petitioners in the case and Accies have been given eight days to show why the order shouldn’t be granted.
But Brown, 79, insists the club were only made aware of the case TODAY and have now taken ‘appropriate legal action’ to ‘ensure the club’s future‘.
A statement from the chairman read: “The club only became aware this afternoon of an attempt to wind up the company and since then the appropriate action has been taken to ensure that this does not happen.
“I am aware of no contractual relationship with the company involved and have no knowledge of any previous communications from that company. In these circumstances it appears as though the wrong party is being pursued.

“In any event the appropriate legal action is underway to protect the club’s position and ensure its future. Our determination to come through these challenging times stronger is undiminished, no matter what adversity we face.
“Further updates will follow in due course.”
The shocking news of the liquidation threat came just hours after reports emerged that directors were in talks with an American consortium regarding a takeover of the club.
It’s been a brutal period for the South Lanarkshire, who were hammered with a 15-point deduction in April in after being found to be in breach of multiple SPFL rules.
The charges related to failure to pay players on time and failing to meet club licensing standards.
SunSport understand that the issuing of the winding up order doesn’t meet the criteria that SPFL bosses would consider as an insolvency event – which could trigger a further 15-point penalty.
But league bosses are monitoring the issue carefully.
