Former Cavalier forward Nicholas Hamilton says his move to Nepal National League outfit Jawalakhel Youth Club represents an important stepping stone as he looks to relaunch his overseas career and open doors to bigger opportunities across Asia.
Hamilton has signed a permanent deal with the Asian club from defending Jamaica Premier League (JPL) champions Cavalier, whom he rejoined at the end of last season.
“This is not even a big league, because it is a three-month league, and I am home not playing any football and I get an opportunity to play over here, and so I just took this opportunity,” said Hamilton.
“I am just hoping to make my name in Asia so I can move onto the Indian league, Malaysia or even the Singaporean League.”
The vastly experienced 29-year-old is no stranger to success, having won JPL titles with Harbour View in 2022 and Cavalier in 2024. A former Holy Trinity High School standout, Hamilton has also had professional stints in Scotland, Finland and Canada, and featured in the local league last season with Waterhouse.
Hamilton will become only the second Jamaican player to compete in Nepal, following the trail blazed by goalkeeper Amal Knight last year.
He added that this is major move for his career and he is now looking forward to doing his best and to establishing himself as a top player in the league.
“I want to play football at the highest level, and so this is a massive stepping stone for me to play overseas again. Because, from I played in the Premier League last season, I haven’t played again, so I am now just going to continue playing and hopefully a better move will come,” Hamilton stated.
“It is not the biggest league but it is very competitive, the pace is fast, and it is also very physical. You have Nepal Super League, but I am playing in the Nepal National League, which is a league below the Super League but hopefully, I can get myself into that league next season,” he stated.
