CELTIC WOMEN have a massive test in the first Old Firm of the SWPL season today.
And two Hoops stars have revealed their family connections to the club – including one very famous cousin who’s a hero at Parkhead.
Aislin Streicek and Grace Courter both swapped Boston College for Celtic this summer.
The pair explained to Sky Sports their historical connections to the club being the driving reasons for their moves.
Courter said: “When we first talked about Celtic, our coach knew that we both wanted to go to Celtic, and I had connections through my dad going to St Andrews and Danny the Caddy.
“He helped caddy my dad out at St Andrews about three years ago and he said ‘oh, I have a connection at Celtic, your daughter should look out for it’, so that was what got my eye on Celtic.
“Aislin and I were like ‘ok, let’s go together’, and so it was very fortunate the way it unfolded and I’m super grateful to be here with my best friend.”
And Streicek revealed a special family connection which has helped her adapt to life in Glasgow.
She said: “Charlie Mulgrew is my cousin, so growing up and watching him play was such a huge inspiration.
“My whole family is Celtic fans, so I knew I wanted to play here one day.
“He’s been constantly checking in, his son Josh is with the under 19s and we train at the same facilities, so even just having him around, going over to their house for dinner, hanging out, it’s been good to talk to them to get settled.”
Celtic and Rangers finished fourth and third respectively last season as the Old Firm pair lost out to Glasgow City and champions Hibs, with pressure on the Hoops going into the derby as they sit top having won their first three games.
Streicek said: “Historically being at some of the games in the past, the Glasgow derby is huge, it’s more than just a game and for me to be able to wear this badge and participate in it is super exciting.”
Courter added: “Back in the States you hear about this rivalry and it’s truly an honour to be here and partake in it and be a part of the history.”
