The country’s top cyclists will battle for supremacy in the Antigua and Barbuda Cycling Federation (ABCF) Pan Am Base Time Trial slated for Sunday.
President of the cycling federation, St Clair Williams, said the body is expecting the full complement of riders to compete in the eight-miles event slated to cover the distance between the Pan Am Base and Jabberwock Beach.
“So what we are trying to do is to get away from the traffic because as you know, there are a lot of cars on the road right now and the earlier we try to go in and get the race done and get away from the location then the better it is for us. We are looking for the full entourage which is a little over 30 cyclists; it’s a very short race but intense so most persons would definitely love to come out and do the short race,” he said.
Veteran riders like National Road Race Champion, Jyme Bridges Jr, National Time Trial Champion, and veteran cyclist Robert Marsh, the young Aiden Tonge and others are expected to be on show when the race pedals off at 8:00am.
“That’s going to start from the Pan Am Base over to Jabberwock and back and the elite, sports class, masters, juniors will be doing two laps of that while the cadets 11-14 and the junior females will do one lap,” he said.
Registration for the event opens at 6:45am and closes one hour later at 7:45am. Members will pay a registration fee of $20 while non-members will pay $50.
