Cayman gymnast Justin Spencer delivered a historic performance at the Junior Pan American Artistic Gymnastics Championships held in San Salvador, El Salvador.
His incredible showing, placing first in the all-round category, saw him make history by being the first gymnast from Cayman to capture a gold medal in the competition.
Spencer didn’t stop there, however. He also secured the top spot on the podium for the parallel bars event.
His dominance was further underscored by his consistency across all apparatus, as he earned five silver medals, one for each of his remaining events.
Spencer acknowledged those who’ve helped him along the way to get to this point saying, “It’s hard just to accredit it to myself though [as] there’s so many people who have helped me throughout my gymnastics journey such as Karthick [Adapa] and Igor [Magalhaes], who have competed in these type of competitions previously.
“[They’ve] really inspired me, and shown the way for men’s gymnastics to really compete in these kind of competitions.”
Spencer also highlighted his coach Kyle Perry, who he says has helped him throughout his gymnastics journey for the seven years that he’s been in this sport.
The international meet was held on 3-9 Nov.
