Cricket West Indies praised Jason Holder for his outstanding performances at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, where he was selected in the Team of the Tournament as the only West Indies player to earn that honour.
The 34-year-old Barbadian all-rounder delivered a strong campaign with both bat and ball, taking 10 wickets and scoring 141 runs at an impressive strike rate of 174.07 and an average of 35.25. His contributions were crucial in several key matches for the West Indies.
One of his standout performances came against England, where he blasted 33 off 17 balls to help his team post 196/6, a total they successfully defended to win by 30 runs.
He also played a memorable role against South Africa in the Super Eights, combining with Romario Shepherd for a record-breaking 89-run eighth-wicket partnership after the team had been struggling at 83/7. Holder scored 49 off 31 balls in that recovery effort.
Additionally, he made a valuable late contribution against eventual champions India national cricket team, hitting 37 from 22 balls to push the West Indies to a competitive total.
Holder expressed pride in being recognized, capping off a tournament in which he stood out as a consistent and impactful performer for the Caribbean side.
“This is a proud moment and achievement in what was really my first full T20 World Cup, as surprising as it may sound.
“I just felt like everything for me was in alignment. My game is in a good place, I kept things simple, lived in the moment and contributed when-ever the team needed me,” Holder said.
Miles Bascombe, director of Cricket at Cricket West Indies, commended Jason Holder for his strong performances and professionalism throughout the tournament.
“Jason’s impact on the team and its performance during the tournament was undeniable. His selection to the Team of the Tournament is richly deserved and reflects the quality, experience and composure he continues to bring to West Indies cricket.
“His ability to influence games with both bat and ball, particularly in key moments, speaks to his value and his leadership. We are extremely proud of his performances and the role they played in the team’s success this year, but also what those performances represented for West Indies cricket on a whole,” Bascombe said.
