FOR the first time in a generation, Scotland fans are set to chase a dream: following their national team across North America for the 2026 World Cup.
After years of near-misses, heartbreak, and qualifying campaigns that fell just short, the Tartan Army will finally get to march into a World Cup again.
This time it’ll be a tournament that spans three vast countries, dozens of enormous stadiums, and unprecedented global attention.
With demand expected to reach record levels and millions of supporters worldwide all chasing the same limited supply, knowing exactly how the ticket system works could be the difference between watching Scotland from the stands… or from your couch.
This guide explains how Scottish fans can secure official tickets, what they might cost, the key sales phases to watch for, and how the new “right-to-buy” token system works.

When did World Cup 2026 tickets go on sale?
Scotland fans heading to North America in 2026 will be desperate to secure their seats early — but the ticketing process is far from straightforward.
Ticket sales started with Phase 1, the Visa Presale Draw, which ran between September 10 and September 19, 2025.
Over a million tickets were released during that phase – exclusively for Visa cardholders and for fans selected through a lottery system.
Phase 2, the Early Ticket Draw, runs from October 27 to 31 at 3pm GMT (11 am ET), giving fans the opportunity to apply for another million tickets via Fifa.com/tickets.
You can either log in with your existing account or visit the Fifa website to create one. This unique ID is required to participate in any ticket lottery.
If you are selected in the draw, Fifa will notify you via email with a designated date and time window to access the purchasing portal. This slot usually lasts between 24 and 72 hours.
During your assigned time, log in to the Fifa ticketing portal to secure your tickets, as they can sell out very quickly.
After the general entry period, residents of the host nations—Canada, Mexico, and the U.S.—will have a 72-hour priority window starting November 12 to purchase 75 per cent of single-match tickets allocated to their country.
Once this priority period ends, both host-nation and international fans who entered the draw will be randomly assigned time slots to purchase any remaining tickets.
Additional tickets will also be released in later phases.
How much will tickets cost
Ticket prices for World Cup 2026 will depend heavily on the match, the stadium, and the seating category.
Because the tournament is the largest in history, spanning three countries, costs will vary widely.
Unless Scotland are facing one of the biggest nation’s in the group stage then prices are expected to start at $60 (£45).
However, many fans fear they are already being priced out of the tournament, with ludicrous prices quoted for re-sale tickets.
Tickets are being sold routinely at at least TEN times the face value plus a whopping ‘Resale Facilitation Fee’.
Based on buying two of the CHEAPEST tickets for the clash on re-sale, it would set you back a whopping $4597 (£3491).
That’s from an original price per ticket of just $60.
Sir Rod Stewart admitted even he could be priced out due to the extortionate prices.
He admitted: “I find it hard that tickets are going to be selling for £2,000. I can’t even afford it.”
Tickets are being sold in four categories, with prices climbing as high as $6,730 for the final in New Jersey.
The average ticket price for the final at the Giants Stadium is currently $3,945.
Understanding the lottery system and how to maximise your chances
Fifa’s lottery system is designed to make ticket distribution fair, but for fans, it’s essentially a high-stakes gamble for a chance to fulfill your dream of watching a World Cup match.
The process is entirely random, leaving applicants with no control over which matches they secure.
The lottery runs in four phases, offering tickets across different match categories and price levels.
Premium games — like the opening match, semi-finals, and final — will be like gold dust, with millions of applicants.
Your chances improve for group-stage matches, particularly those that don’t feature one of the heavyweights.
But even careful planning won’t guarantee your first choice — or any ticket at all.
However, fans should register for every lottery phase — not just the Scotland-specific ones.
Keep your Fifa Ticketing account fully updated with payment details and identification.
Be flexible: applying for more match categories increases your chance of being selected.
Don’t wait for general release as the biggest waves of tickets are allocated before that stage.
What is Fifa’s “Right to Buy” system?
Fifa’s “Right to Buy” (RTB) system offers a premium, guaranteed pathway to World Cup tickets — but it comes at a significant cost.
An RTB is essentially a digital token that secures your place in line to purchase a ticket during a later sales window.
While it doesn’t include the ticket itself, holding one guarantees you the opportunity to buy, bypassing the uncertainty of the lottery.
The RTB option often comes bundled with mandatory hospitality packages, accommodation, and transportation arrangements, providing a comprehensive World Cup experience — but at prices that can run into thousands of pounds per person.
They require careful planning and are best suited for those whose budget is not the primary concern.
