THERE were plenty of highly charged emotions as Europe defeated the USA to win the Ryder Cup once again.
And Sky Sports presenter Iona Stephen too was visibly emotional as the magnitude of what she’d just been a part of began to sink in.
Luke Donald‘s European team dominated the first two days of competition at Bethpage Black in New York State.
Despite facing a barrage of abuse from the rowdy US crowd, Team Europe led 11.5-4.5 after the first four sessions across Friday and Saturday.
It meant just three more points were needed from Sunday’s singles matches to win the coveted prize again.
The Americans battled back in dramatic fashion and made it an incredibly uncomfortable Sunday.

WILD RYDE
Why Luke Donald’s Band of Brothers clinched the Ryder Cup for Europe on US soil
In fact, only ONE European player won a match outright on Sunday with Ludvig Aberg prevailing over Patrick Cantlay.
Team USA won SIX of the matches and made it a close run thing as they threatened one of the all-time great sporting comebacks.
In the end, Europe secured enough crucial half points to get the job done.
Shane Lowry‘s half took Europe to 14 points to ensure they’d retain the trophy, before Tyrrell Hatton and Robert MacIntyre got the victory signed and sealed.
As you’d expect, there were scenes of wild celebration in the aftermath of one of the great Ryder Cup victories.
As always, Sky Sports were there to broadcast the event back home.
Former pro golfer Iona Stephen has become one of the leading presenters on Sky’s golf coverage, delighting fans with her expert knowledge and insight on the course.
This Ryder Cup was no different, with Stephen one of the eyes on the ground in the thick of the action.
And after witnessing the remarkable European achievement first hand, Stephen – who also hosts her own hugely popular YouTube show – took to social media to react to what she’d seen.
Scots favourite Stephen, 33, was visibly emotional as she reflected on what she’d just been a part of.
Filming herself as she walked around among the aftermath, she told her 195,000 Instagram followers: “Incredible. We’ve done it.”
“We’ve won the cup and I was there.”
Stephen could then be seen choking back the tears as she added: “I’ll be telling my grandkids….. amazing.”
After pausing to gather her thoughts, she then came across a group of thrilled Scottish fans dressed in European gear and tartan, shouting at them: “Let’s go Europe!”
She later shared a picture with the same fans, who were spotted carrying two Robert MacIntyre flags.

Rangers hero’s Strictly Come Dancing debut leaves teammates stunned
The Scots golf ace has been hailed by European fans after his half point in what turned out to be the final match of the singles competition.
That half took the European score onto 15 points and meant the half attained due to Viktor Hovland‘s withdrawal didn’t end up ultimately becoming the half point that solely got the victory over the line.
