Sabrina Dockery made an impressive start to her professional career at the 25th staging of the GC Foster Classic in Angels, Spanish Town, on Saturday.
Dockery, a former Lacovia High student, won the women’s 100 metres going away in a season’s best 11.13 seconds, running into a negative wind of 0.9 metres per second. Mickaeila Moodie of G.C. Foster College was second overall second in 11.69 with third going to Titania Lowe, also of G.C. Foster College, in 11.78.
Kadrian Goldson of SprinTec dominated the men’s 100m. Running into a negative wind of 1.1 metres per second, he clocked 10.31, ahead of teammate Odaine McPherson (10.33) and Rasheed Foster of The Mico University College, who took third in 10.34.
Janiel Joseph of MVP Track Club was the quickest in the women’s 400m after topping her rivals in 52.87. Shian Salmon of SprinTec was second in 53.17, with third going to Anthonique Strachan of MVP in 54.03.
Jeremy Bembridge of Racers Track Club dominated the men’s one-lap event, winning in 45.62, ahead of the Titans Track Club duo of Assinie Wilson (45.64) and Malik James-King (46.26).
With a week to go ahead of the ISSA Boys and Girls’ Athletics Championships, several high school athletes showed good form.
Defending 400m hurdles champion Kelly Ann Carr of Edwin Allen High looked relaxed in winning the event, clocking 59.02 seconds, ahead of the UTech duo, Annalice Brady (59.81) and Deandre Harris (1:00.14).
Former Edwin Allen sprinter Thienna Lee Terrelonge, now competing professionally for Uptimum Track Club, won the Class One 200m in 23.12, ahead of Abrina Wright of Holmwood, who was second in 24.26. Shanique Cassanova of Edwin Allen was third in a personal-best 24.46.
Edwin Allen’s athletes dominated the half-lap event in Classes Three and Four. Tashana Godfrey won Class Three in a personal-best 24.17, ahead of teammate Adrianna Pine (24.48). Monique Bogle won Class Four in 25.06, ahead of Breana Gray of Excelsior High (25.65).
Abbigail Bennett of Merl Grove High was an impressive winner in the Class One girls’ discus with a throw of 48.22m. Rehanna Biggs of St Jago (42.82m) and her teammate Jessica Thompson (39.03m) were second and third, respectively.
Joseph Salmon of Jamaica College stood out with a throw of 59.09m to win the Class One boys’ discus, ahead of Kingston College’s (KC) Nkogoma Obafemi Johnson with 57.30m and Dylan Logan, 57.02m.
Rasheed Grant of St Mary High captured the Class One boys’ 800m in 1:53.62, ahead of Alejandro Palmer of KC (1:56.40).
Markland Williams of Denbigh High continued his winning ways in the Class Two boys’ 800m, clocking 1:57.87, with Keneil Daniels of Excelsior second in 1:58.40. Anthen Newland of Holmwood was third in 1:58.50.
Edwin Allen boys had a one-two finish in the Class One 200m with Kenrick Anderson winning in 21.25, ahead of Romario Finnegan (21.38). Kenrick Sharpe of St Mary High was third in 21.48.
In the Class Two boys’ 200m, Taheem Thompson of Edwin Allen won in 21.99, ahead of Ched Brown of Calabar, 22.41.
At Saturday’s meet, several schools from central and western Jamaica who were affected by the impact of Hurricane Melissa were awarded $500,000 from the main sponsor of the meet, Adidas. The schools were Holmwood Technical, Black River High, Lacovia High, Alphansus Davis High, Manchester High, Herbert Morrison Technical, Rusea’s High and Petersfield High.
