Member of Parliament (MP) for the St Mary’s South Constituency, Kelvin “Shugy” Simon, says he intends to invite the government’s top brass in sport to a meeting planned with members of the constituency and moreso, members of the Bolans community to discuss the way forward regarding stalled work at the community playing field.

“That’s in the pipeline, actually, and I wanted to do it before Carnival but it is not going to work out before the Carnival season because right now, everybody in the heart of the festivities so nobody has the time to listen or pay attention to certain things. But it’s something I am going to do for sure. The community needs to know what is happening and I will be inviting the Minister of Sport [Hon Daryll Matthew]. I will be inviting the senator and my opponent [Dwayne George] and whoever else from the government can come and be a part of the discussion because we want to know exactly what’s happening. There are many persons that are very disgruntled about it and some are speaking under their breath,” he said.
Work started on a section of the field during the latter part of 2023, just prior to a by-election in the St Mary’s South Constituency between Simon who is the sitting MP and UPP candidate and his opponent and ABLP candidate, Dwayne George.
Simon said that to date, there has been very little progress while the area remains a major concern for those who live in the community as no updates have been given by the government.

“The progress is so dim that they had to start all over again because they would have dug out the columns they planted first, and now I see them paving where the columns were in the foundation and going up with some more columns.
“The sad thing about it is that, to this day, the community does not know what is happening. There is no clear communication, there is no blueprint, no 3D drawing so that we can know what it is going to look like or what the vision is for the park. What I am seeing is just a community being robbed of the opportunity to really enjoy this sporting facility,” the MP said.
Reports are that the situation has negatively impacted the both the Bolans football team and the Bolans Blasters cricket teams where preparation is concerned. Bolans Blasters have not hosted any home matches since work started on the field, which has left them at a disadvantage across a number of competitions hosted by the cricket association.
