Agreeing there is room for growth, organizer of the inaugural Buss Ball Father and Son Cricket Festival, Samuel Peters expressed satisfaction with both the participation and support during Sunday’s event held at the Liberta cricket ground.
The event highlighted father-and-son pairs throughout a host of activities spanning batting and bowling competitions and a pink ball cricket match between fathers and sons.
Speaking on the Good Morning Jojo Sports Show, Peters said former players and their sons spanning several generations took part in the event and he explained why the advertised raffle of a 2013 Honda Fit did not materialize.
“So you have masters which is 40 and over; seniors which is 18 to 39 and the juniors who are under 18. It was well supported as Kofi James was there, Rahkeem Cornwall was there but basically we had to change things with the raffle where we had to cancel the raffle. The reason being, we wanted to have more ticket sales because the ticket sales were not great. We sent tickets to Roti King, Cool & Smooth and Joma and we were expecting to sell at least half of that but we got ball all, all,” he said.

Peters added that planning and ensuring the event was a success also provided valuable insight as to what it needed going forward in order to propel the event even further.
“I was a little sceptical and nervous leading up to it because I would have put a team together to basically delegate responsibilities and so forth to end up realising in the morning that you have to do everything. I was up at 5:30 in the morning making three trips from Coolidge to Liberta so it was a bit nerve-racking. We wanted to start at time on 10 but we ended up starting at 1:00 pm and you had to get food, take it to them and get back so the persons you thought would have been there, they had things to do but hey, it’s your event,” he said.
Meanwhile, visiting Trinidad journalist, Dennis Allen of Good Morning Jojo and REP 868 Fame who flew in for the event, said there is room for growth in what he said was fantastic day of friendly rivalry.
“The event really captured my imagination and I was very interested and intrigued and interested to see how it would turn out with the bowling and all of that but with some little tweaks and tunes here and there; but you’re definitely on to something there; definitely on to something,” Allen said.
The father-and-son pink ball cricket match was won by the Red Team after batting first and posting a score of 118. Green Team could not reach their target before being bowled out.
