By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Inter Milan have secured their place in the UEFA Champions League final after an intense 4-3 overtime victory over Barcelona at the legendary San Siro Stadium in Milan, Italy. In a match filled with unpredictability and high drama, the Italian champions overcame a second-half resurgence from Barcelona to claim the win on a 7-6 aggregate score.

Having settled for a 3-3 draw in Barcelona last week, Inter Milan came into the second leg determined to take control. Despite Barcelona’s dominance in possession, Lautaro Martínez struck first for the home side in the 21st minute. As the first half neared its end, Hakan Çalhanoğlu doubled Inter’s lead with a coolly executed penalty in the opening minute of injury time.
Barcelona responded emphatically after the break. Eric García ignited the comeback with a goal in the 54th minute, followed by Dani Olmo’s equalizer just six minutes later. As the clock wound down, Raphinha sent Barcelona ahead 3-2 with a critical strike in the 86th minute, seemingly sealing their passage to the final. However, Francesco Acerbi delivered a stunning twist in the third minute of stoppage time, forcing overtime with his dramatic 3-3 equalizer.
With tension mounting, it was Davide Frattesi who emerged as Inter Milan’s hero in extra time, finding the net in the 99th minute to restore their lead and ultimately clinch victory. The celebrations erupted across the stadium as Inter Milan booked their first Champions League final appearance since their heartbreaking 1-0 defeat to Manchester City in 2023.
Inter Milan have a rich history in the competition, having won the trophy on three occasions (1964, 1965, and 2010). Their last triumph—a 2-0 win over Bayern Munich in 2010—came under the leadership of José Mourinho, as they secured a famous treble that season. The club have also reached the final two other times, finishing as runners-up in 1967 and 1972.
Inter Milan now await their opponent for the final. They will face either Paris Saint-Germain or Arsenal in Munich on 31 May. PSG currently lead that semi-final clash 1-0 after their win in London, with the decisive second leg scheduled for Thursday in Paris.
