Jaiden Reid, a sophomore at Louisiana State University, continues to excel in track and field overseas, recently breaking another Cayman national record and qualifying for the world championships.
Most recently, Reid, 20, clocked a national record breaking 20.13 seconds in the 200-metre semi-finals sprint at the 2025 Southeastern Conference (SEC) Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Lexington, Kentucky.
Not only did he set a new national record with this time, but it also qualified him for the upcoming Tokyo World Athletics Championships set for 13-21 Sept.
Reid went on to earn a bronze medal in the finals in the 200m event, with a time of 20.15 seconds.

To add to his SEC outdoor championships achievements, Reid’s season-best time of 38.43 seconds helped the LSU men’s team earn a silver medal in the 4x100m relay. Additionally, he finished fifth with a personal best time of 10.08 seconds in the 100m dash.
With an accumulated 12 points, Reid was the highest scoring male athlete at the SEC championships.
Reid told the Compass that although it has been challenging competing at LSU, it has also been amazing to be a part of his dream school that takes sports seriously.
On qualifying for the world championships, he said, “It was always my dream to compete at the highest level and thankfully God has blessed me with this opportunity.”
