Caymanian 200-metre sprinter Jaiden Reid has officially withdrawn from the upcoming Tokyo World Athletics Championships.
The news was shared on 2 Sept. by Cayman Athletics on its social media channels.
Reid, a sophomore at Louisiana State University, confirmed he was pulling out of the championships due to an injury and the need to prioritise his long-term health.
“To clear the air, I’ve been doing rehab on my hip and my hamstring and with further assessments with my medical team and my head coach, I just thought it was safer that I didn’t extend my season so much longer,” Reid said.
He added that his focus will now be on “getting healthier and attending to my duties in the fall training”.
Reid competed in the 2025 Southeastern Conference (SEC) Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Lexington, Kentucky, on 15-17 May, where he solidified his qualification for the Tokyo World Athletics Championships.
At that event, he also clocked a new national record for the Cayman Islands in the 200-metre semi-finals, finishing with a time of 20.13 seconds.
He went on to secure a bronze medal in the 200m final with a time of 20.15 seconds.
Additionally, he helped his LSU men’s team earn a silver medal in the 4×100-metre relay with a season-best time of 38.43 seconds. He also achieved a personal best of 10.08 seconds in the 100-metre sprint, finishing fifth.
Reid was the highest-scoring male athlete at the SEC championships, accumulating 12 points.
