Jamaica 0-2 on opening day of inaugural CAZOVA U-17 Championships; Trinidad & Tobago, Suriname among winners
Hosts Jamaica were beaten comprehensively in both the Girls and Boys sections on day one of the inaugural CAZOVA Under-17 Championships at the GC Foster College in Jamaica on Thursday.
The Girls were beaten 3-0 by Trinidad & Tobago while the Boys lost by a similar score line to Suriname.
In the Girls encounter, T&T won the first set 25-10 before winning the next two 25-15 and 25-11.
The first two sets were closer between the Boys and Suriname, with the latter winning them 25-21 and 25-16 before closing out proceedings with a 25-7 demolition in the third.
The day’s other game on the Girls side saw Suriname win a tight three-set affair against Barbados.
Suriname took the first set by two (25-23) before comfortably taking the second 25-12. The third set was also hotly contested, with Suriname eventually coming out 25-22 winners.
The other Boys match saw Barbados defeat Trinidad & Tobago 3-0 (25-9, 25-15, 25-17).
Girls action on Friday will see Trinidad & Tobago facing Barbados before Jamaica takes on Suriname while, on the Boys side, Barbados will take on Suriname while Jamaica will face Trinidad & Tobago.
