BRENDAN RODGERS has refused to rule out Celtic making a stunning swoop for Jamie Vardy.
The former England striker has been linked with a shock move to Parkhead.
Vardy, 38, is a free agent after leaving Leicester in the summer.
The striker spent 13 years with the Foxes and became one of the English Premier League‘s most prolific frontmen.
He inspired the club to their sensational title triumph in 2016 and also won the FA Cup.
That latter success came in 2021 when Rodgers was the Leicester manager.
SunSport revealed earlier this week that Vardy had his eye on a move to Celtic.
Sources close to the player say he feels he can still play on for another couple of seasons.
Amid the intensifying transfer talk, Rodgers was asked directly about Vardy in his press conference ahead of Celtic‘s clash with Kairat tomorrow night.
And while the Hoops boss insisted he wouldn’t be drawn on talking about specific stars, he did NOT ultimately rule out a move for Vardy.
Rodgers said: “Listen, I would not speak about any individual player.
“Of course I worked really well with Jamie, he was brilliant with me in my time at Leicester.
“There’s been so many names floated about but I wouldn’t disclose either way.”
Despite his huge success in recent years, Vardy remains a free agent.
Brentford and West Ham are among the clubs who have an interest in keeping him in the Premier League.
High-flying Wrexham have also been linked with a swoop throughout the summer transfer window.
Meanwhile, Celtic enter the Champions League qualifiers at the play-off stage this week.
They’ll host Kazakh champion Kairat at Celtic Park in the first leg tomorrow night.
Rodgers and his squad will no doubt be hoping to get plenty of the hard yards done in this one given they have a gruelling 7,000 mile round trip to Almaty to come next week.
