RACING has been plunged into mourning after the death of jockey Tommie Jakes at the age of 19.
The apprentice rider was a popular member of the weighing room and rode for top trainer George Boughey.

An IJF/PJA joint-statement read: “It is with deep sadness that we report the death of licenced apprentice jockey Tommie Jakes, 19, who tragically died at home this morning near Newmarket.
“Tommie was a much-loved son and brother, and a popular member of George Boughey’s racing team.
“His parents Jeremy and Tonie ask that their privacy is respected at this terrible time.”
Jakes’ final ride came just yesterday afternoon at Nottingham, where he finished seventh of nine on a 125-1 outsider.
He had ridden 59 winners from 519 rides and had amassed impressive prize money earnings of more than £500,000.
