The Cayman Islands Basketball Association is celebrating a landmark achievement as its under-23 men’s 3×3 basketball team prepares to compete at the 2025 Junior Pan American Games in Asuncion, Paraguay.
The tournament, running from 15-17 Aug., marks a historic occasion for Cayman, as it is the first time its players have qualified for a basketball event at the Junior Pan American Games.
This is a testament to Cayman’s rapid ascent in the International Basketball Federation 3×3 world rankings over the past two years, the Cayman Islands Basketball Association said in a press release.
The team’s qualification follows a series of performances, including their participation in the FIBA 3×3 Youth Nations League 2025 Americas 2 tournament in Punta Arenas, Chile, last month.
The team’s roster is comprised of captain Nathaniel Hurlston-Anderson and teammates Brad Lansdell, Alwin Buttrum Jr. and Bryan Ebanks-Perez.
This quartet will face host nation Paraguay in the preliminary rounds on 15 Aug. at 9:30am (Cayman time), followed by a match against Mexico on 16 Aug. at the same time.
The results of these games will determine their advancement in the tournament.
Cayman Islands Basketball Association president Collin Anglin expressed his immense pride in the team’s accomplishment in the release, saying, “This is a proud and historic moment for Cayman basketball. Our young men have trained tirelessly for this opportunity, and we are excited to see them compete against some of the top basketball nations in the Americas. We believe they will represent Cayman with pride, heart, and determination.”
