By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Belize’s Keith A. Enwright Jr came agonizingly close to the podium on Sunday morning, finishing fourth in the Junior Men’s Road Race at the Caribbean Cycling Union’s 2025 Junior Road Championships in Christ Church, Barbados. The result mirrored his fourth-place finish in Saturday’s Individual Time Trial, showing his consistency and competitive edge across both disciplines.

Enwright Jr. stayed with the lead pack throughout the mass-start event, ultimately crossing the line behind Martinique’s Nehemy Jean Baptiste (1st), and Puerto Rico’s Julio Andres Sanchez-Alvarado (2nd) and Joseph Vargas Gigante (3rd). The first two medalists clocked in at 2:05:01, the third was three second behind, and Enwright Jr. just seven seconds off their pace in 2:09:08.
Belize’s Devyn Major also completed the race, finishing 16th with a time of 2:09:23. Major held steady in the middle of the field, navigating a fast and tactical course that saw five riders—including Belize’s Jamaal Tablada—listed as DNF.
Saturday’s time trial tested riders on a technical 5.7-kilometer course, where Enwright Jr. again finished fourth, trailing medalists from Puerto Rico, Martinique, and Antigua.

Irene Baki took third place in the Junior Female Road Race at the Caribbean Cycling Union’s 2025 Championships in Christ Church, Barbados, on Sunday, August 31, 2025.
Enwright’s result matched teammate Irene Baki’s in the Junior Women’s category, setting the tone for Sunday’s endurance challenge.
Baki went on to claim bronze in the Junior Female Road Race, completing the course in 2:10:43 behind Martinique’s Dahlia Reine and Bermuda’s Charlotte Millington. Her medal marked Belize’s first podium of the championships.
Team Belize—featuring Chelsy Gillett, Lianni Choto, Jamaal Tablada, Keith Enwright Jr, Irene Baki, and Devyn Major—was officially presented on Friday in Bridgetown, proudly wearing national colours alongside Cycling Federation of Belize President Glen Flowers and team chaperone Rita Matute née Thompson.
With Baki’s bronze and fourth place, Enwright Jr.’s double fourth-place finishes, and Choto’s fifth place, Belize’s junior/youth cyclists demonstrated resilience and rising competitiveness on the regional stage. The 2025 championships brought together athletes from 18 nations, offering a glimpse into the future of Caribbean cycling.
