KEVIN MUSCAT is close to being named the next manager of Rangers after Danny Rohl became the latest big name to pull out of the running.
The German decided to take his name OUT of the process to become the next permanent manager of the Ibrox side, after Steven Gerrard did similar on Saturday evening.


And that leaves Muscat as the clear frontrunner.
SunSport understands that talks over a deal for Muscat have progressed in the last 24 hours and the Aussie is now close to landing the Ibrox job.
The situation over the former Gers star is complicated, however, by the fact he’s in the throes of a title race in China.
The Aussie is under contract until December 2026, and is thought to earn £1.6m to £2m a year at Shanghai Port.

So he won’t come cheap – with compensation in that region also required to buy out the remainder of his contract.
But reports coming out of China last night said Shanghai “had activated its contingency plan, with the team’s technical director traveling to Japan this week to discuss alternative options with the former J.League coach.”
With Neil McCann part of a potential coaching team, the clock is ticking about his arrival on an interim basis as the Gers prepare to face Dundee Utd on Saturday.
