Returning bodybuilder, Tariq Kinesberger, lit up the stage during Saturday night’s National Bodybuilding Championships, claiming four categories while also walking away with two special awards.
Kinesberger, who returned to the stage following a three-year hiatus due to academic commitments, wowed both the judges and the audience at St Anthony’s Secondary School to claim the Senior Men’s Bodybuilding (Lightweight), Overall Men’s Bodybuilding, Senior Classic Physique (B)and theOverall Classic Physique titles.
In addition, Kinesberger, trained by the successful husband-and-wife pair of Ambassador Kimberly and Bernard Percival, was awarded the Bernard Percival Classic Physique Best PoserAward and the Melissa and Michelle Seaforth Breakout Athlete of the Year Award.
Veteran Tony Phillip also presented well, claiming the Masters Bodybuilding category over longtime rival Dale Gardner, who presented onstage for the final time as a competitor. The 53-year-old Gardner had previously said that this year’s competition would be his last.
Phillip went on to finish second in the Senior Men’s Bodybuilding Heavyweight Division behind Jameel Knight.
There was success as well for veteran Yvette Butler as she claimed the Senior Women Fit Modelcategory before finishing second in the Senior Bikini Fitness. Butler was bettered by Tiffany Gordon in the Senior Bikini Fitness showdown.
