Fast-rising Kittitian pacer Jahzara Claxton has earned a spot in the 15-member West Indies Women’s squad for the upcoming white-ball tour of England, set to take place from 21 May to 8 June 2025. The announcement was made by Cricket West Indies (CWI) on Monday.
Claxton, 19, replaces Jamaican all-rounder Chinelle Henry in the squad, which will contest three T20 Internationals and three One-Day Internationals across various venues in England. The young fast bowler’s selection marks another significant step in her promising cricket career and shines a spotlight on the growing talent coming out of St. Kitts and Nevis.
The team will be captained by Hayley Matthews and includes a blend of seasoned players and emerging prospects, with Claxton’s inclusion signalling CWI’s continued investment in youth development within the women’s game.
Director of Cricket, Miles Bascombe, expressed confidence in the selected squad, describing the tour as “an important opportunity to reassert themselves on the international stage.”
“The T20 Blaze competition has come at an opportune time, giving many of our senior and emerging players the chance to stay match-ready and sharpen their skills in a competitive environment,” he said.
Head Coach Shane Deitz echoed similar sentiments, noting that the England tour presents the ideal setting to showcase West Indies cricket’s trademark flair and resilience.
“It’s now time to switch up to international cricket, put on a good display, and give our supporters something to cheer about back in the Caribbean,” Deitz added. “Jahzara has shown immense potential, and this tour will be an excellent opportunity for her to grow even further.”
Claxton has been a standout performer in recent regional tournaments and continues to inspire young athletes in St. Kitts and Nevis. Her inclusion is being celebrated by fans and cricket enthusiasts across the Federation.
The tour marks a significant milestone in Claxton’s young career and for St. Kitts and Nevis cricket. The St. Kitts Cricket Association (SKCA) proudly acknowledged her selection, issuing a statement to celebrate the moment.
