Rain affected all three matches on opening day of the West Indies Rising Stars Women’s Under-19 Championship in St Augustine, Trinidad on Tuesday with the clash between the Leeward Islands Under-19 Women and host Trinidad and Tobago, ended in a ‘no result’ at the Sir Frank Worrell Memorial Ground.
Asked to bat after T&T won the toss, Leeward Islands Women were 120 without loss from 20.3 overs when rain intervened. Opener Sainavi Kambalapalli was 62 not out from 59 deliveries with seven fours while Jahzara Claxton 19 not out from 16 balls after having struck two fours and a six. Earlier, Kayzg Boyles retired hurt on 29. Davehjah Brown bagged two for 15 in for overs.
Meanwhile, Jamaica Under-19 Women defeated Guyana Under-19s by six wickets on the DLS method after their clash at the Diego Martin Sporting Complex was also affected by rain.
Batting first, Guyana reached 27 for three in 10 overs before their innings was interrupted by rain. On resumption, Jamaica were set a revised DLS target and reached their goal at 34 for four in 7.1 overs.
The other scheduled clash between Windward Islands and Barbados at the National Cricket Centre in Couva, was abandoned without a ball being bowled.
