Leeward Islands lost by two wickets to Guyana in the CWI West Indies Rising Stars Men’s Under-19 Championship on Tuesday, despite a three-wicket haul by Antiguan Matthew Miller and two batters falling just short of their half centuries at the Conaree Sports Club in St Kitts.
Miller bagged three wickets for 51 runs in nine overs but could not stop Guyana from reaching their target of 234 with five balls to spare in the 50-overs contest. There were two wickets each for Isra-el Morton who had two for 39 from 10 and fellow Antiguan, Tanez Francis who had two for 40 in 10 overs also bowling for the Leeward Islands.
Rampersaud Ramnauth top-scored for Guyana with 48 from 59 deliveries while Jonathan van Lange was on 47 from 74 balls before being run out. There were contributions of 34 and 30 from Afraz Ali Budhoo and Romeo Deonarine respectively as Guyana reached their target with two wickets in hand.
Earlier, Leeward Islands after winning the toss and opted to bat, posted 233 all out in 47.2 overs. De-Antre Drew made 42 from 52 deliveries and Devanand Singh added 41 from 69 balls. Kunal Tilokani added 38 to the effort and Carlton Pluck made 28.
There were three wickets each for Romario Ramdehol (3/22) and Golcharran Chulai (3/39) Bowling for Guyana.
