Rescuers took part in a daring training exercise to prepare for saving casualties at sea.
Lerwick RNLI and the coastguard’s Rescue 900 crew carried out a winching exercise to the south of Lerwick harbour yesterday (Saturday) morning.
The RNLI said it helped its crew become more familiar with helicopter operations at sea, including the use of a “hi-line” guide to enable the winch paramedic to get on and off the deck of the lifeboat.

“This essential training helps our crew to learn how to prepare for a casualty to be safely lifted by helicopter if it was ever needed,” the RNLI said.
“We’re always grateful for the time and professionalism of the helicopter crew to help maintain our skills.”
