ALEXANDER ISAK is making no excuses for his horror start to life at Liverpool.
The £130million striker, who has just one goal for club and country since his controversial deadline day move, admitted recent weeks have not been “optimal”.
Isak returned from a groin injury from the bench in Sweden‘s 4-1 defeat in Switzerland on Saturday – failing to even attempt a shot.
The Swede had been absent since October 22 with injury and is not yet ready to start games.
Having trained alone for the majority of the summer to force through a move to Anfield, he has far from hit the ground running.
Isak’s only goal came against Championship strugglers Southampton in the Carabao Cup – but he is positive he can turn it around.

Isak said: “It hasn’t been optimal.
“But when I’m on the field, I don’t give myself any excuses.
“I always want to play my game and perform.
“But yes, it’s hard to be away and not be able to help and contribute. Now I’m back and I’m positive.

“There’s not much that’s easy in football.
“But with experience you learn to deal with things. That’s how it is with injuries and all that.
“You learn to deal with it and get back on track the right way.
“It’s always frustrating when you’re injured. Regardless of whether it’s one match or more. It’s always the worst for the player himself.”
Sweden teammate Anthony Elanga, who joined Newcastle before seeing Isak leave, has also backed the striker to show his quality.
Elanga said: “We know what the quality Alex has and it’s all about trusting him and just having faith with him.
“He is a top player.
“You don’t cost that much and go to a team like Liverpool if you’re not a good player.
“It’s all about having faith with him and just give him time because he’ll come good.”
Elanga could have felt hard done by seeing his international team-mate head out the door so soon after his arrival at St. James’ Park.
