United were believed to have matched an offer made by Newcastle for the striker, which was also accepted.
The Magpies bid would have seen RB Leipzig take in £71.5m up front with an additional £2.1m in performance-related bonuses.
But Sesko has decided he wants the Red Devils and is set to finalise his switch to Old Trafford in the coming days, per The Athletic.
The German side have now given Sesko permission to travel to complete the transfer.
Sesko, 22, will complete United’s new look attack following the arrivals of Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha.
The Slovenia international has scored 39 goals in 87 games for RB Leipzig, including 21 last season.
Newcastle, meanwhile, want to sign a new striker amid Alexander Isak’s uncertain future.
The striker refused to take part in Toon’s pre-season tour and was subject to a £120million bid from Liverpool.
