THE body blows keep on coming for Manchester United fans – as a horse named Amorim suffered defeat hours after the side’s Europa League final loss.
The £500,000 two-year-old colt ran at Yarmouth under Sun Racing columnist Billy Loughnane.
Owned by huge racing figure Sheikh Mohammed Obaid, Amorim, who shares a name with Utd boss Ruben Amorim, was a well-backed 10-3 before the off in the 6f contest.
But, just as the Portuguese couldn’t mastermind victory over Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham, his namesake horse was absolutely no match for runaway winner Postmodern.
One punter joked: “Amorim can’t catch a break, now he’s been beaten at Yarmouth too.”
While another wrote: “Amorim finishes second at Yarmouth. You couldn’t make it up!”
The defeat came after Man Utd boss Ruben Amorim’s side loss 1-0 to Spurs – who ended their 17-year trophy drought with victory in Bilbao on Wednesday night.
Old Trafford chiefs have subsequently ‘put every player up for sale’, according to reports, with the club said to be facing financial ruin.
The future could be a bit rosier for this horse, though, who looked promising despite failing to win.
Winner Postmodern was immediately given quotes of 10-1 for the Coventry at Royal Ascot with bookies labelling him ‘very smart’.
