MANDEVILLE, Manchester —Manchester High came from behind to edge Mt Alvernia High by two points (25-23), in Thursday’s final of the ISSA Rural Area girls’ basketball competition at Manchester High School.
Mt Alvernia High, who were in the final for the first time, had upset defending champions Herbert Morrison Technical in their semi-final a week earlier, while Manchester High got by Old Harbour High in their play-off.
The St James based-school led 3-2 after a slow start by both teams in the first quarter and were up 13-7 at half time before Manchester High outscored them 7-1 in the third quarter as the teams were locked at 14-all going into the final period where they outlasted Mt Alvernia High 11-9.
Mickayla Roberts scored a game-high eight points to lead Manchester High, while Jenique Northover scored six points.
Jayla-Shae Wright scored seven points to lead Mt Alvernia High, while Briana Bailey scored six points.
