MARTIN O’NEILL didn’t take long to relegate Jim Goodwin into the Hoops reserves when he took over as Celtic manager back at the turn of the millennium.
The Irishman made his debut AGAINST Hoops Dundee Utd under Kenny Dalglish back in May 2000 alongside the likes of Paul Lambert and fellow Hoops debutant Mark Fotheringham – Henrik Larsson making his return from a broken leg.

But dumped unceremoniously back in the reserves, Goodwin had to be content with a playing career which graced the likes of Stockport, Scunthorpe, Huddersfield and St Mirren.
O’Neill went onto bring seven major honours to Celtic and reach a Uefa Cup final, but now the two go head-to-head again with Goodwin hoping to beat Celtic for the second time in just weeks after masterminding a 2-1 win against Wilfried Nancy’s men over the festive period.
This is now O’Neill’s THIRD stint as Hoops boss, having taken a step back to facilitate the short term follow which was the Nancy era.
He’s said he WON’T be staying at the club beyond the summer – but his credentials to remain in charge will be glowing if he can lead the mini fightback to beat Rangers and Hearts to what is a massive Scottish Premiership title.
