Captain Matthew Miller put up his hand again to inspire his team in a dominant all-rounder performance but his team fell short by nine runs to Trindad and Tobago in their fourth match of the CWI Men’s Rising Stars Under 19 Tournament in St. Kitts.
Playing at the Elquemedo Willett Park, the visitors got to 241 for nine in 50 overs as Cristian Rampersaud stoked 43, Stevon Gomez 32 and Riyaad Mohammed 29. Matthew Miller had figures of three for 52 while fellow countryman Tanez Francis had two for 50. With 252 being the target, the home side got off to a steady start reaching 53 for the first wicket. Kunal Tilokani made 45 while Devanand Singh stroked 25. But Miller kept his team in the game with another well-paced knock of 52 for the same amount of balls. He received great support from Eirette Richards who contributed 38. Leeward Islands were eventually restricted to to 232 for nine with Aadian Racha 2-31, Zachary Madray 2-34 and Abdul-Raheem Toppin 2-42 playing a major part in their demise.
Barbados Under-19s maintained their perfect record through four matches on their quest to defend their West Indies Rising Stars Men’s Under-19 50-Over Championship with a tense four-wicket win over Jamaica Under-19s at St. Paul’s Sports Complex on Saturday.
The Bajans dismissed Jamaica for just 124 in 29.3 overs after Jamaican captain Brian Barnes elected to bat after winning the toss.
Barnes was the only batsman to pass 20 with his 42 off 41 balls as Khomari Griffith led the bowling effort for Barbados with 4-14 from his seven overs of off-spin while pacer R’Jai Gittens and fellow off-spinner Xaundre Baptiste picked up two wickets, each.
Barbados then lost six wickets on their way to 126 in 28.1 overs.
Zachary Carter led the scoring with 37 off 42 balls including six fours and a six while Shaquan Belle finished 28*. Pacers Deshawn James and Kev’Aundre Virgo picked up 2-34 and 2-28, respectively.

Windward Islands Under-19s 262-8 in 50 overs (Earsinho Fontaine 100, Stephan Pascal 41, Golcharran Chulai 2-22, Jonathan Van Lange 2-47, Parmeshwar Ram 2-60) defeated Guyana Under-19s 183 all out in 49.4 overs (Sachin Balgobin 48, Riyad Latif 32, Kirt Murray 3-26, Kirsten Murray 3-33, Isaiah Jones 3-48) by 79 runs at St. Mary’s Park
USA Under-19s 1 274 all out in 49.5 overs (Amrinder Gill 80, Utkarsh Srivastava 53, Saharsh Shwethan 44, Shaurya Gaur 2-14, Ayush Patel 2-42, Rahul Basu 2-48, Ritvik Appidi 2-50) defeated USA Under-19s 2 193 all out in 44 overs (Amogh Arepally 85, Shiv Shani 4-33, Advaith Anoop Krishna 2-12).
