The highly anticipated Cayman Athletics National Championships are set to electrify the Truman Bodden Sports Complex on 27-28 June.
Beginning at 5:30pm each evening, this pinnacle event of the Cayman track and field season promises thrilling action and free entry for all spectators.
Organised by Cayman Athletics, the governing body for the sport, the championships offer a prime opportunity for athletes from Hy-Tech Tigers Track Club, Mustang Track Club, Vision Academy 345, Speed Athletics Track Club, and FALCON Athletics to demonstrate their progress.
H. Delroy Murray, president of Cayman Athletics, told the Compass that athletes are selected by their respective clubs or schools, with no cap on the number of entrants.
He added that the primary objective for participants is to clinch national champion titles and for senior athletes, to achieve World Athletics qualification standards for the World Championships in Tokyo, Japan, scheduled for 13-21 Sept. this year.
Long term, the impact of these championships hinges on individual athlete achievements, with the Cayman Islands Athletics Association executive currently considering comprehensive plans for the sustained physical, mental and psychological development of athletes.
