CELTIC legend Neil Lennon reckons Brendan Rodgers’ messaging wasn’t as HONEST as it should have been.
And he reckons some of the hostility aimed at Hoops chiefs has been ‘unnecessary.’
It’s been a dramatic week at Celtic with Brendan Rodgers sensationally resigning and being replaced on an interim basis by Hoops icon Martin O’Neill.
Before the bombshell announcement of Rodgers’ departure could even begin to sink in, Celts supremo Dermot Desmond unleashed a blistering statement that absolutely eviscerated the outgoing manager.
The upheaval followed weeks of drama and unrest, both on and off the pitch.
Rodgers had repeatedly publicly called out Celtic‘s transfer business, with fans venting their fury with regularity towards the club’s board over their dealings – or perceived lack thereof – during the summer window.

The Hoops’ shock exit from Champions League qualifying to Kairat Almaty only heightened the fan anger, which has gone on to take the form of several protests.
Ahead of Wednesday’s game against Falkirk, thousands of Celtic fans gathered outside Celtic Park to demand the exit of club chiefs.
Rodgers had also raised plenty of eyebrows with his comments about his players during his final week in charge.
After losing 2-0 to Dundee, he compared his players to ‘Honda Civics’, saying: “There’s no way you’ll go into a race and be given the keys to a Honda Civic and say, ‘I want you to drive it like a Ferrari’. It’s not going to happen.”
Former Celtic boss Neil Lennon appeared on Sky Sports last weekend – before Rodgers’ exit – and he hit out at those comments from the man he took over from in 2019.
Lennon also had a fiery debate with ex-Celts teammate Chris Sutton, with Lenny defending the Hoops board, arguing that recruitment has NOT been as bad as Sutton was making it out to be.
Lennon’s defence of the board saw him come under fire from many Celtic fans.
Appearing as a pundit for the Old Firm cup clash on Premier Sports, Lennon was asked if Desmond’s blistering words had VINDICATED his own assessment.
Lennon replied: “I wasn’t looking for vindication, I only spoke from my experience as the Celtic manager for six years over two spells.
“The people who work behind the scenes are quality people.
“They are not there for money, they are brought in because they have done really well in their own field and have great business acumen.
“Let’s get it right, Celtic is a very well-run club.
“I felt that the vitriol that was aimed at them was unnecessary and that the messaging coming from the manager wasn’t as honest as it should have been.”

While O’Neill is interim charge, Celtic are looking for a new permanent boss.
Kieran McKenna, Robbie Keane and Lee Carsley are among the names in the frame, although it’s been reported that the latter – England U21 boss Carsley – would NOT be interested and wants to stay in his current position.
