Honda Newtown United stamped their authority on the SKNFA Division One with a dominant 12-0 demolition of 607 Construction Lodge Patriots on Monday, April 28, bringing a high-scoring end to the first round of the 2025 season at Warner Park.
Devaughn Mills and Kimron Browne each struck twice early to set the tone, while hat-trick hero Sylvester Caines led a relentless second-half assault. Goals also came from Haim Isles, Carlos Bertie, and Shamar Powell, as Newtown soared to the top of the standings, solidifying their status as early favourites for promotion.
In the night’s other matchup, SKELEC Garden Hotspurs kept their hopes alive with a dramatic 4-3 win over MBT/Fast Cash Saddlers, who nearly snatched a point with two late goals in stoppage time. Rakeal Allen’s brace, including a crucial 74th-minute strike, ultimately proved decisive for the Hotspurs.
Saddlers coach Stephen Clarke lamented his team’s lapse in concentration.
“Just complacency… not being secure. I think it was just some individual mistakes,” Clarke admitted. “We didn’t close out the game well enough. We gave them life.”
Saddlers United coach Samuel Phipps commended his team’s second-half spirit.
“At halftime, we said three nil down—that’s gone—but we need to play our style. We worked it out and came back with three goals in the end.”
Elsewhere in Round 1:
