Following the successful staging of last summer’s Clarendon Elite Football Cup, plans are already afoot for this year’s competition.
The tournament will once again be played at Glenmuir High School from July 31–August 2 and will see an increased number of participants, including newcomers Kingston College, Mona, and Manning Cup champions Excelsior. They will join the likes of Munro College, Vere Technical, Manchester High, Denbigh and hosts Glenmuir High, who defeated Vere Technical in last year’s final.
Meet organiser Anthony Baker, a past student of Denbigh and Glenmuir, is excited about this year’s staging.
“We are very excited once again to put on the Clarendon Elite Football Cup. Our mission is to foster a love for football and promote sportsmanship, while providing a positive, competitive experience for all participants,” said Baker.
Once again, trophies and cash prizes will be up for grabs. The winning team will receive $550,000, with second place earning $250,000 and the third-place finishers receiving $100,000.
Glenmuir, who made the final of the daCosta Cup this season, will likely start favourites again, but will face challenges from KC, Mona and Excelsior, who all proved to be strong Corporate Area teams in the Manning Cup.
Last year, Glenmuir beat Vere Technical 2-0 in the final, while Denbigh squeezed out a 2-1 victory over Munro College to take third.
