Partizan vs Hibs preview
It was a real sucker-punch last Thursday night as Hibs were dumped out the Europa League by Midtjylland in the 209th minute of 210 minutes played.
The battling draw in Denmark was followed by another spirited display that saw them end the game goalless before equalising when the visitors took the lead in extra time.
To lose a goal so late would be disheartening but David Gray will have taken more than enough from the two-legged tie to be really encouraged.
Even more so when seeing it didn’t seem to affect his players too badly when kicking off their Premiership campaign with a victory on the road at Dundee on Sunday.
The thought of an away trip to face Partizan likely sounds a lot tougher on paper, but the bookmaker odds suggests Hibs have a far, far better chance of a result over these two legs.
As should be the case dropping down a competition, obviously. But Partizan have been priced up at Evens to win the first leg, which suggests Hibs could and should be bang in the tie after the first leg.
The Serbian side have won their last five games though – including both of their first two league outings – after losing their Europa League first leg tie to AEK Larnaca.
They’d go on to level up the tie in the home second leg before losing on penalties, before coming through a convincing 6-0 aggregate win over Oleksandriya in the previous round of this competition’s qualifying.

Tough to call
The idea of an away trip to Serbia at this point in the season would seem a step too far normally to Scottish sides outwith the Glasgow pair.
But this Hibs side and the way they finished last season before taking Midtjylland all the way, and the bookmakers odds for them, suggest they should head there with plenty of optimism.
In Milan Vukotic, Partizan have a midfielder with two goals and two assists in his last four, scoring in his last two.
He can keep that run going but I fancy Hibs to again have something to build on going into next Thursday’s home leg.
