By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Premier Women’s League of Belize (PWLB) Final between Sagitun GIRLZ and Napoles FC has been placed on hold as Jewel Fury FC officially protest Napoles’ qualification on the away goal rule.

The first leg of the final was scheduled for this weekend at Isidoro Beaton Stadium in Belmopan, with Napoles hosting. The second leg was set for Michael Ashcroft Stadium in Independence one week later, but with the protest now under review by the PWLB Protest Board, uncertainty looms over the championship match.
Sagitun GIRLZ’s Road to the Final
Sagitun GIRLZ stormed into the final with an overwhelming 24-0 aggregate victory over Cayo Dreamers, showcasing their superiority in every aspect of the game. After an 11-0 win in the first leg in Santa Elena, the GIRLZ continued their onslaught at Michael Ashcroft Stadium, claiming a 13-0 victory in the second leg.
Star forward Jolene Aranda led the charge, scoring 12 goals across the two matches. Captain Sabrina Eiley netted five, Kenya Perez added three, while Sidney Ruiz, Elizabeth Ryan, and Jasha Bernardez scored one each, ensuring their place in the final was undisputed. Their relentless attacking force makes them clear favourites heading into the championship match.

Napoles’ Away-Goal Qualification
Napoles FC secured their place in the final after eliminating Jewel Fury FC in a nail-biting semifinal battle that ended in a 2-2 aggregate draw. Napoles won the first leg 1-0 at home, but Jewel Fury fought back to claim a 2-1 victory in the second leg at Isidoro Beaton Stadium.
Despite their loss, Napoles advanced on the away goal rule, with Jinelle Pott’s crucial away strike proving decisive. However, Jewel Fury fiercely protested and contested this outcome.

Jewel Fury’s Protest
Following the match, Jewel Fury officially filed a protest with the PWLB Protest Board, questioning Napoles’ qualification. PWLB Competition Director Sandra Aleman confirmed that the protest is under review, with a ruling expected in the coming days.
Napoles FC, meanwhile, remain firm in their stance. The club issued a statement emphasizing that both Match Officials and the Match Commissioner ruled in their favour, declaring them rightful finalists.
What’s Next?
While the clubs awaits the Protest Board’s decision, the final remains in limbo. If Napoles’ qualification is upheld, they will host Sagitun GIRLZ in Belmopan as scheduled. However, if Jewel Fury succeeds in their challenge, the final lineup could dramatically change.
With the integrity of the competition on the line, the decision will determine whether the PWLB Final can proceed as planned or if another twist will reshape its biggest battle.
