By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Progresso FC made an emphatic statement in their debut at the Clash of the North Championship, securing an impressive 3-0 victory over Sarteneja FC. The match saw Progresso FC, a last-minute replacement for OW champions Yo Creek United, take control early and never look back.
Miguel Yco got Progresso FC off to a flying start, netting the opening goal in the 17th minute with a clinical finish. Despite Sarteneja FC’s efforts to respond, Progresso maintained control of possession, frustrating their opponents and limiting their offensive opportunities.
The lead was doubled in the second half when Francisco Rivas confidently converted a penalty kick in the 55th minute, leaving Sarteneja’s goalkeeper with no chance. As the game neared its conclusion, Jareth Tablada sealed the victory in the 89th minute, securing Progresso FC’s 3-0 victory.
The result was a resounding success for Progresso, who entered the tournament after replacing Yo Creek United, who withdrew in protest over an unresolved disciplinary dispute involving their players. Progresso will now look ahead to their next challenge as they aim to capitalize on their impressive start.
In the other match of the day, San Jose Pumas secured an equally dominant 3-0 victory over Calcutta Bulls, with goals from Mark Bainton (59’), Diego Chan (86’), and Bryce Lawrence (88’).
The following Sunday, June 8, the action shifts to Carolina Football Field in Corozal, where:
