RANGERS fans believe there is an obvious answer to their full-back conundrum ahead of the transfer window closing.
It’s been a problem area for the Light Blues with Russell Martin yet to identify his first choice right back.
Bournemouth loanee Max Aarons experiment at left-back failed, then he was shunted to right-back.
Martin then recalled his captain James Tavernier to the starting line up for the Old Firm derby against Celtic.
Some supporters of the Light Blues though would like to see a former star return to the club.
Everton defender Nathan Patterson came through the ranks at Rangers and burst on the scene in 2020.
His performances for the Ibrox side persuaded the Toffees to part with £11.5million – a record sale for the Gers at that time in January 2022.
Patterson’s game time has, however, often been restricted at club level due to injury.
A major hamstring injury suffered in April 2024 denied him a chance to play at the Euros and sidelined him for almost 10 months.
Last season, he made just 10 league appearances for the Toffees with just four of those coming from the start.
The Scotland international has been in and out of the first team at the English Premier League side and looked to be on the verge of joining La Liga outfit Sevilla on loan this week.
But it appears that move is on the verge of collapsing as Juanlu Sanchez’s move to Napoli has fallen through.
Rangers fans on social media believe a move back to Glasgow could be a deal that suits all parties.
One fan said: “Get it done, most obvious loan deal ever.”
Another commented: “He should be back at Rangers.”
A third added: “A certain loan get it done.”
Other fans pointed out though that Rangers may have reached their limit of loans allowed if a deal for Marseille defender Derek Cornelius goes through before tonight’s deadline.
