IT’s difficult to wrap your head around the idea of two men on opposite sides of the Old Firm being best friends.
But Celtic goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel is in fact very close to a Rangers hero who won seven trophies with the Light Blues in Glasgow.
It’s rare for two Old Firm icons to be so open about their close friendship off the pitch.
But Schmeichel and Peter Lovenkrands have spoken candidly about their relationship both in and outside of football.
Schmeichel, 38, was spotted with the Rangers hero in Glasgow this week as they enjoyed a meal together at popular West End restaurant La Lanterna.
But nights out together don’t come once in a blue moon.

In fact both Danes have revealed that eating together is actually a regular occurrence, with the pair sometimes dining with one another as often as FIVE times per week.
The pair are neighbours in Glasgow, but Lovenkrands has actually joked that they could move even CLOSER to each other – and into the same house!
And when it comes to booking date nights with his wife, Lovenkrands has revealed that it’s always a table for three – or more.
The pair discussed their friendship in an interview with Danish broadcaster Sport.TV ahead of Denmark vs Scotland tonight.
And when asked how often they see each other, Lovenkrands replied: “At least five times a week. Maybe more sometimes.”
“He’s moving in with us”, the Rangers hero laughed.
“My family, my girls, my wife, they love it when he’s there. Sometimes I make some Danish food and he comes over to get some.
“When we go out to eat, I’ve made a rule with my wife and me that we only book a table for three. Then I text him and say, ‘we’re going out to eat, are you coming?’ He always arrives in less than an hour.”
In the Lovenkrands household, Sundays are never for family time.
Those days are actually set aside for his best pal Schmeichel.
The Rangers hero continued: “Sometimes we eat together just us or my family comes as well.
“Some of my friends come over too and he’s become a huge part of it now.
“We see each other so often and then we have our Sunday.
“We will watch football together on Sundays if Kasper isn’t playing, of course, and we also watch NFL together as well.”
Lovenkrands and Schmeichel go away back well long before they both moved to Scotland.
They met in Birmingham when Lovenkrands played there and Schmeichel starred for Leicester.
They celebrated Christmas together in a small Danish enclave down south with their families and two Danish goalkeepers Thomas Sørensen and Brian Jensen.
The Old Firm icons then parted ways when Lovenkrands moved away, but were reunited when Schmeichel left Anderlecht to join Celtic.
He moved next door to the Rangers hero and they’re closer than ever before.
But despite their long friendship, some football fans in Glasgow can’t get their head around how the pair can be best pals.
Lovenkrands said: “There were some who had to understand it when we were out to eat at the beginning.

“For example, there was someone who came over and asked what we were doing together one day.”
Schmeichel then chimed in and laughed: “That’s perhaps a slightly nicer way of saying it than he did!”
