RANGERS and Jose Cifuentes are ready to reach agreement on the final two years of the Ecuadorian’s deal, it’s being reported in South America.
The 26-year-old midfielder, who has 21 caps for his country, hasn’t settled in Scotland where he’s started just SIX league matches for the Gers following his £1.2m deal from LAFC.
Cifuentes was a key transfer target for Michael Beale, initially signing a pre-contract following the conclusion of the MLS season before the Gers got the deal done early.
But it just hasn’t worked out – and after spells at Cruzeiro and Aris Salonika in Greece he was due to return to Ibrox this summer.
But he was left to view from the stands as the Ibrox men took on Club Brugge at the weekend.
There’s been no obvious sign of him at the club’s training camp at St Geoge’s Park either.

Russell Martin has already brought in Joe Rothwell and Lyall Cameron to bolster his midfield options.
Mainstays such as Nico Raskin and Mohamed Diomande are in there too, while Nedim Bajrami appears reborn in early training sessions under Martin.
Kieran Dowell is still on the books and there are also young bucks like Bailey Rice in the mix.
So it should come as no surprise that Diario Expreso say it is likely that settlement could be reached for the remaining years of his deal to allow the star to negotiate with another team.
Meanwhile, the Ibrox men are reportedly exploring a potential loan deal for a Premier League goalkeeper this summer.
Russell Martin has already added five of his own signings to the Rangers squad since taking over as boss, with Lyall Cameron snapped up before the gaffer arrived in Glasgow.
He’s snapped up players across the pitch as Emmanuel Fernandez, Nasser Djiga and Max Aarons will all provide defensive reinforcements, while Thelo Aasgaard and Joe Rothwell will beef up his options in midfield.
But now the former Southampton and Swansea boss is looking at signing a goalkeeper too.
According to talkSPORT, Rangers are interested in signing Brighton goalie Carl Rushworth on a season-long loan.
It’s said the Premier League outfit have already knocked back an approach for the 24-year-old from a Championship side.
