RANGERS have confirmed how they plan to mark the 55th anniversary of the 1971 Ibrox disaster, in which 66 fans died.
The Gers make sure to mark the anniversary of the tragedy early each year – and this year will be no different, although they’re away at Celtic Park on January 3.

The Ibrox men say they’ll observe a minute’s silence prior to their last home match before the anniversary on December 30.
They’ll then have a small ceremony at the stadium on Friday January 2 – with the club also represented in a ceremony in the town of Markinch to remember five boys from that town who died in the disaster.
The players will wear black armbands against St Mirren and Celtic.
They wrote in a statement: “Rangers Football Club today confirms plans to mark the anniversary of the 1971 Ibrox Disaster and other tragedies at the stadium on January 2, 2026.

“With no match scheduled for that day, the club will host a short service of remembrance at the Ibrox Disasters Memorial statue at 11am.
“Led by Club Chaplain and Minister of Glasgow Cathedral, the Reverend Mark Johnstone, the event will include readings, the laying of a floral tribute and a minute of silence.
“All supporters are welcome to attend this short memorial.
“Later in the day, a supporter-led service that is open to all, will then take place at the north-east corner of the stadium footprint (opposite the former club shop) at 4.45pm, the approximate time of the 1971 disaster.
“Rangers will also be represented in Markinch on January 2 at a service remembering the five boys from the village who died in the disaster.
“That event takes place at 2pm in Markinch Memorial Garden.
“The club has reached out directly to survivors and the families of those who lost their lives, for whom we hold contact details, with further details of the memorial plans.
“If you have been directly affected by any of the tragedies to have occurred at Ibrox, and have lost contact with the club, please email [email protected]
“Lastly, prior to our match with St Mirren on December 30, the club will observe a minute’s silence in memory of our absent friends.
“The team will wear black armbands at both the St Mirren game and the game against Celtic on January 3.”
