WILLIE COLLUM will hand referee Nick Walsh and VAR official Steven McLean the green light when it comes to their handling of the controversial Old Firm Premier Sports Cup semi-final.
There’s been an outcry in many quarters over the fact that Auston Trusty was only yellow carded after kicking the prone Jack Butland on the head as the Parkhead side booked their place against St Mirren in next month’s showpiece.

Rangers went to the SFA with their concerns over the matter, then said they were ‘unsatisfied’ with the association’s answers.
The SFA’s own KMI panel then ruled by 2:1 that Trusty SHOULD have been sent off.
Former top flight official Bobby Madden also explained why he thought Trusty was lucky to escape a red card.
But that likely indicated that the representative from the refereeing department took a different view.

And now SunSport understands that Collum will say that a yellow card was sufficient when the latest episode of the VAR review show is aired on SkySport this week.
The letter of the law comes down to whether the contact can be viewed as “neglible” as Trusty clearly wasn’t challenging for the ball, which was safely held by Butland at the time.
A Rangers statement said: “We remain unsatisfied with the explanation of the referee’s decision in that incident, the application of the Laws of the Game, and the VAR review itself, which we do not believe was sufficiently robust or thorough.”
Speaking for the first time on the incident, Trusty himself said: “I tapped him, I didn’t boot him in the head.
“I didn’t actually mean it. You could see my demeanour and my reaction.
“I tapped him on the head.
“I didn’t think it was anything but I was obviously apologetic.”
