Jaiden Reid is off to a record-breaking start in his sophomore year at Louisiana State University and the sprinter made more noise at the recent Tyson Invitational.
The meet, which took place from 14-15 Feb. at the Randal Tyson Indoor Track in Fayetteville, Ark., featured Reid reaching new levels in both the 60- and 200-metre races, where he clocked personal best times.
In the 60m, Reid finished in 6.59 seconds – his top time ever in that event and the fourth fastest time in LSU history.
Reid, who has kept a busy schedule thus far in 2025, then returned for the 200m where he missed the LSU all-time top 10 list by .02 seconds.
However, his time of 20.72 seconds was good enough for a personal best and a new indoor Cayman national record – an achievement he credits to his dedicated training and support system.
“I feel proud and relieved to know that I broke the national record because it’s proof that all the hard work behind the scenes is being paid off,” Reid told the Compass. “Even though I train at LSU right now I also credit my success to my parents, family and friends, my supporters and most importantly my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.”
He added that his focus for the rest of the season is qualifying and competing at the NCAA Championships – the biggest event for collegiate athletes in the US – but in the immediate future, he is looking toward the SEC Championships.
“Stay healthy, continue to train hard, trusting the process and make it to the big championships,” Reid said.
The SEC Championships, scheduled to take place at the Fasken Indoor Track & Field Facility in Texas from 27 Feb. to 1 March, are followed by the NCAA Championships from 14-15 March.
