West Indies Under-19 all-rounder, Matthew Miller, could turn out for St Maarten in next week’s Leeward Islands Cricket Board’s Mixed Tournament in St Kitts.
The Antiguan, who was originally left out of an 18-member senior men’s training squad announced earlier this month for the October 25 to November 1 tournament, is set to join the St Maarten team in St Kitts on Friday according to sources.
The 17-year-old Jennings Tigers player was, however, called to the Antigua and Barbuda training squad a little over one week ago as a replacement for senior player, Hayden Walsh Jr, who announced his decision to turn out for neighbouring Montserrat in the Leeward Islands tournament.
However, a 14-man squad recently released by Cricket St Maarten, did not include young Miller but sources close to the player confirmed that he will travel on Friday to St Kitts where he is set to join the squad.
Miller, a former Antigua Grammer School (AGS) student, recently represented the West Indies Under-19s in a seven-match Youth One Day International (ODI) series which took place from 25 August to 16 September, here in Antigua.
The player recently led the Leeward Islands team for the Cricket West Indies Rising Stars Under-19 Tournament in St Kitts and Nevis, amassing 174 runs while claiming 13 wickets at an average of 16.38.
Miller is set to take up a scholarship with Bede Academy in Northumberland, England in January. He is also expected to represent the West Indies Under-19s in a seven-match Youth ODI series against England Under-19s, scheduled from November 16 to December 1 at the Grenada National Stadium in St George’s.
Released St Maarten squad: Daniel Doran (Captain), Nathan Edward (Vice Captain), Mirnal Wadhwa, Amarius Harris, Michaell Palmer, Is-rael Morton, Ackeem Charles, Devanand Singh, Randell Longville, Michael Lewis, Samuel Morton, Tyanick Honore, Rudesh Ramraj, Jathan Edward, Parsram Singh (Coach) and Kenroy David (Manager).
