Teagan Mewett shows off her bronze medal
Rory Shepherd won silver and Teagan Mewett bronze as Bermuda picked up their first medals in the pool at the Carifta Aquatics Championship on Saturday night.
Shepherd finished second in the boys 13-14 50 metres backstroke in a time of 29.19sec behind winner Michael Sobers, from Barbados.
Mewett won Bermuda’s first medal in the pool in the girls 15-17 200 metres breaststroke.
Mewett, 17, the daughter of Bermuda Olympian Geri Mewett, was always secure in third place and closed the gap to runner-up Ellie Shaw, eventually finishing in 2:45.80. The race was won by local favourite Jade Bering in 2:38.29.

Elsewhere on finals night, Connor Hupman and Violet Smith both finished just outside the medals in the 15-17 50 metres backstroke. Smith touched the wall in 31.51 and missed out on a medal by just under a second, while Hupman finished in 27.08 and was just 0.22 from claiming bronze.
Marleigh Howes finished seventh in the girls 15-17 100 metres butterfly.
The Bermuda 4×100 metres relay team of Connor Hupman, Noah Maranzana, Gabriel Maranzana and Logan Jones finished sixth in 3:39.32 in the 15-17 age group, with the girls team of Gabriella Cechini, Katherine Wheddon, Elanna Fulton and Marleigh Howes occupying the same position in their race after finishing in 4:09.67.
Wheddon also finished ninth in the 800 metres freestyle, with Jorgia White eleventh.
