Jamaican 400m hurdles prodigy Roshawn Clarke remains positive and is already eyeing a return to competition after suffering a mid-race injury during the Grand Slam Track Series at the Ansin Sports Complex on Friday.
The 20-year-old, widely regarded among the most promising talents in global athletics, failed to finish the race after clipping a hurdle midway through the contest. Clarke, who reached the final at last year’s Olympic Games in Paris, appeared to pull up immediately after the stumble, prompting medical personnel to assist him off the track.
While the race went on and Brazil’s Olympic bronze medallist Alison dos Santos coasted to victory in 47.97 seconds, all eyes remained on the young Jamaican, whose abrupt exit sparked concern among fans and fellow athletes. American Chris Robinson (48.92s) and fellow Jamaican Malik James-King (49.43s) rounded out the podium.
Later that evening, Clarke took to social media to ease fears and thank supporters for their concern and well-wishes.
“First of all, thank you, @grandslamtrack, for the support and medical care yesterday. I really appreciate it; thank you,” Clarke wrote in a social media post.
“Thank you to my fans that continue to support me and were concerned about me yesterday. I’ll be back on track very soon!! My recovery will determine my availability again,” he added.

He also offered words of encouragement to his fellow competitors.
“To all the long hurdles athletes, all the best tomorrow (Saturday) in that 400m,” Clarke said.
For Clarke, setbacks are not new. In an event as technical and unforgiving as the 400m hurdles, even a fraction of a misstep can turn a race upside down. Yet, it’s Clarke’s resilience — and his meteoric rise in recent years — that make the athletics world confident this latest hiccup is only a temporary detour.
Bursting onto the international stage with record-breaking times at the junior level, Clarke has quickly cemented his place among the elite. His performance at the 2023 World Championships, where he fearlessly competed against the best in the world, signaled his arrival as a serious contender on the global circuit.
With the World Athletics Championships scheduled for later this year and the track season heating up, Clarke’s health and form will be watched closely.
