By Rubén Morales Iglesias: As the Premier Women’s League of Belize (PWLB) Closing Championship Finals get underway, Sagitun GIRLZ are counting on their dynamic duo—Jolene Aranda and captain Sabrina Eiley—to lead them to victory against Napoles on Sunday, May 25, at 5:00 pm at the Isidoro Beaton Stadium in Belmopan.
Aranda has been a scoring machine, netting 25 goals this season and proving her ability to find the net in crucial moments. She played a decisive role in the regular-season victory against Napoles, scoring twice in their April 27 encounter, including the match-winning goal in the 69th minute.
Meanwhile, Eiley’s leadership and attacking prowess make her a key figure in Sagitun’s title aspirations. Not only does she provide stability in midfield, but she also contributes to the offensive firepower that has made Sagitun the most dominant team in the league. She shook the net ten times this season.
But Aranda and Eiley won’t be alone—they will be supported by Kenya Perez, who scored nine goals throughout the season. Perez, who opened the scoring against Napoles in their last clash, adds depth to Sagitun’s attacking lineup.
Having already dismantled Napoles twice this season, Sagitun GIRLZ will be eager to complete the hat trick and secure the championship. With Aranda and Eiley leading the charge, they have every reason to believe their firepower will carry them through.
On top of that, Sagitun GIRLZ head into the Finals without any injuries, while Napoles have been managing injuries to Stephanie Barrientos and Belcie Montoya.
Following Sunday’s match, the return leg—the definitive final—will take place on Saturday, May 31, at the Michael Ashcroft Stadium in Independence, where the Premier Women’s League champion will be crowned.
