Welterweights Hervé Charlemagne and Daniel Martin have left Saint Lucia for Guadeloupe with gratitude and determination for the opportunity to participate in elite training at the CREPS Antilles-Guyane.
The sports performance and training centre located in Les Abymes, Guadeloupe, specialises in developing elite athletes, offering education in sports and animation careers, and supporting high-level training with medical, nutritional, and psychological services.
The two boxers, who have impressed at the regional level, spoke of their pride in carrying the national flag and their appreciation for the rare opportunity to sharpen their skills.
Martin recently emerged victorious at the 2025 OECS Boxing Championships and helped Team Saint Lucia retain the championship title. Charlemagne achieved regional success in Guyana at the Caribbean School Boys and Girls Boxing Tournament, where he led Saint Lucia to a podium finish.
“This is a major step in my boxing journey,” Charlemagne said ahead of his departure. “Training at CREPS will expose me to a higher level of competition and discipline. I’m grateful to the Boxing Association and everyone who believes in my potential. I’m going there to work hard and represent Saint Lucia with pride.”
Martin echoed the excitement of testing himself against top-level opponents.
“Opportunities like this don’t come often. I’m excited to learn, improve and test myself against top-level boxers. This programme will help sharpen my skills and prepare me for what’s ahead. I’m proud to carry the Saint Lucian flag into this experience.”
This programme forms part of the Saint Lucia Boxing Association’s (SLBA) mandate to give boxers international exposure in preparation for upcoming competitions.
“This immersion programme is a critical investment in the future of Saint Lucian boxing,” SLBA President David “Shakes” Christopher said. “Hervé and Daniel have shown commitment, discipline and promise, and this experience at CREPS will accelerate their development. We are confident they will return stronger, more disciplined, and better prepared to compete at the highest level.”
